The gym can be a very interesting place. Many different people with many different personalities gather to attempt to get into some sort of shape. For the most part people keep to themselves and go about their business. But things get much more interesting when God points out someone who needs His love right then and there.
One afternoon I was at the gym in the middle of some sort of arm exercise when the Lord began to speak to me about the plans He has for us. But not just those of us who love Him. He was also talking about those who don’t love Him. He was talking to me about how He wants those who don’t love Him to know that He loves them and has plans for them if they would run into His arms.
I thought this sounded good and I was touched by His love. I kind of expected that to be the end of it but it wasn’t. I wasn’t expecting what came next.
He pointed out a man across the room working out on another piece of equipment and said, I want you to go tell that man what I just told you. I sat there for a moment just looking at the man. He was a pretty big guy minding his own business. I was thinking, are you serious Lord? You want me to go and share with that big, sweaty guy?
The answer came in the form of peaceful reassurance that He indeed wanted me to approach the stranger and share His love for him. So I put down the weights I was using and started towards the man before I could change my mind.
He didn’t notice me standing next to him so I had to tap him on the shoulder. I took a deep breath, reached out and got his attention. His expression seemed nice enough. A little confused, but nice.
I introduced myself and explained to the man that sometimes God puts a message on my heart and asks me to share it with different people.
He looked more confused. But I pressed through.
I shared with him that God has a plan for him and is calling him with open arms along with some other things that the Lord led me to share.
The look in his eyes told me that he wasn’t quite sure what to do with the information right then so I just placed my hand on his shoulder and told him that God loves him and to take care. He just nodded at me.
On my way out of the gym (I had finished my work out) the Lord spoke to me softly and affirmed that what I had spoken was truly from Him and that He was going to continue to pursue the heart of the stranger in the gym.
